THE INSPIRATION

Nearly 30 years ago, a tattoo artist I was working with gave me this postcard when I spotted it lying around the shop. At the time, I was a college student working on my fifth and largest tattoo, trying to woo her as I lay under her needle for countless hours. This image clearly left an impression on me, as I’ve kept it all these years. It now serves as the inspiration for a studio series, where I hope to highlight the beauty of the tattooed and the artistry of the tattoo artist through my lens.

THE BRASS TACKS

This 45-minute session takes place in my loft studio, located above my wife’s salon. Choose one of the three styles listed below, and we’ll schedule your session. Afterward, your photos will be edited within 7–10 days and delivered via a private gallery. You can download individual images for $10 each or purchase the entire gallery for $200.

UH, I HAVE QUESTIONS…

DON’T YOU NORMALLY CHARGE FOR THIS? Yes, normally there is a $125 session fee for the 45 minutes package. I am waving it simply because at this point I am just starting this project out and need to get people in to build the portfolio I want to showcase. This will not always be the case. Plus, insecure “artist” and all that…
DO I HAVE ENOUGH TATTOOS FOR THIS? I am looking for some good coverage. A sizable chest or back piece, half to full sleeve’s, legs, suits, half or full rivers, the more the better.
IS IT JUST LADIES THAT YOU ARE LOOKING FOR? Nope. Everybody and anybody that meets the coverage criteria and wants photos of their tats is welcome.
THE LADY IN THE INSPIRATION PHOTO IS NUDE, DO I HAVE TO…? Nope. Your level of comfort is absolutely critical. Your state of dress/undress is completely up to you and well, where your tattoos are and what you want photos of. Wear what you feel for your comfort level that still exposes your tats for the photos.
WELL, I AM FULLY COVERED, BUT DON’T FEEL COMFORTABLE WITH SOME RANDOM DUDE TAKING PHOTOS OF ME…Friends who will be there are totally welcome and encouraged.. If you have a tattooed friend, even better, they can do a session after you and you can support each other during the process. I will say this however, politely but sternly: Friends are better than significant others. Choose wisely.
